Our First Earthquake

As most of you may already know, there was an earthquake on Tuesday July 29th @ 11:42 pac time that was just east of Los Angeles that was a 5.4.
It was the first earthquake that the kids and I have ever experienced, maybe I should say Shaun and I, Ashlee and Connor didn't even have a clue that it had happened.
I was taking a nap at the time and woke up to the feeling of someone kicking my bed, seeing the blinds swinging back and forth and hearing the windows shake (like with the strong winds back in Utah).
I was kindof dissoriented then Jordan called about 30 seconds later asking if I felt it, he said that it was the strongest one he's felt since he's been out here.
But, were all fine and safe, nothing even fell off of a shelf or anything. I think the kids were more excited that it happened then scared, like it was an amusement park ride, makes me think we need to get their attitudes changed about that.

We're Official!!!

So yesterday we went to the DMV and got our CA state drivers licenses and plates for the Camry. I guess it means the we're official Californians now!!!
The weird thing was that they gave us paper licenses and are mailing us the real ones in a couple of weeks. I guess I'm just used to getting it right on the spot.
Jordan says at least now we can get the discount year long so cal disney passes.
It was also kind of odd being the ONLY 2 white people in a building of about 200 people. Everyone that was there getting new plates & licenses were black or hispanic but so were all of the workers!
Jordan said that this was one of the towns that we didn't want to live in due to that fact, just because it has a higher crime rate too. And wouldn't you know it, sure enough, one of the side streets on our way there they had blocked off with police tape. Someone had been murdered in that morning! Tons of cops and spectators everywhere! Needless to say, I'm glad that I don't need to go down to that area of town very often.
Things are going well otherwise, I must say though, it is kind of odd seeing Jordan at lunchtime everyday for an hour. After not being around him for such a long time it's just kind of a different experience seeing everyday, it still sort of seems like we're on vacation.

July 4th @ the beach

For the 4th we decided to go to the beach. We were able to get a passerby to take a family picture for us, which I am very grateful for. I've always wanted a picture of us at the beach on rocks.

The kids had a ton of fun, we got them boogie boards at costco earlier, they had been begging for them since they had found out we would be moving out here. Needless to say, it kept them busy ALL afternoon!!! It was so much fun watching them trying to get the hang of it.

Even though the kids did manage to get sunburned pretty badly (even with sunscreen) they still want to go back as soon as we can. I guess you can't get enough of a good thing.

The Move to Cali

So before we left for Cali I was beginning to wonder what was wrong with me. I hadn't shed a tear over leaving. If anyone knows my family at all knows this is just not the Smith way! Well, just so you know I did finally lose it around Nephi, for about 30 mins I couldn't stop crying, Jordan told me I needed to get out this mood that I was in. I guess that it had just finally started to sink in that it's finally happening.

But, were here now and getting settled.

So begins life in California!!!!
